A new use of mobile point of sale (POS) is to accept payments from customers using public assistance programs such as Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children (WIC), Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits and Electronic Benefit Transfers (EBT). ii2P's new mobile POS solution can do all of this, and also accepts credit and pin-based debit payments. It can use either online (magnetic stripe) or offline (smart card) technologies, and support multiple government authorities in cases of border states.
Now, with ii2P's POS system, the places where government-issued cards can be used has expanded to farmer's markets and other outdoor and temporary venues that may not have access to electricity or phone lines. This convenient platform is now available to Farmers' Market Associations (FMAs) across America. Acceptance of several types of payments increases sales for farmers. This helps farmers grow their businesses.
WIC helps low-income pregnant women, breastfeeding women, infants and children under the age of five with health care and nutrition. WIC is a program of the Food and Nutrition Service (FNS) of the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA). SNAP offers food assistance to low or no income families. EBT is an electronic system that lets the government issue monetary benefits through a debit card. The benefits are usually food and cash benefits. The EBT card can be used to pay for food and non-alcoholic beverages at different retailers.
"With ii2P's mobile POS solution farmers are no longer limited to cash transactions," Greg Johnson, President of the Fort Worth Farmers' Market Association, said. "Farmers can now process all payment types with ii2P's convenient and easy-to-use mobile POS terminal."
The State of Texas WIC program certified the ii2P Farmers' Market POS solution after a successful pilot test at FMAs at Austin, Fort Worth and San Antonio.
The ii2P POS software was developed in partnership with Dejavoo Systems, a terminal manufacturer. It has a rechargeable Li-ion battery with a long battery life. It is water and drop resistant. It uses a secure PIN Entry Device (PED). It also supports General Packet Radio Service (GPRS), Wi-Fi, or direct dial. ii2P has a knowledgeable Help Desk in addition to how-to videos, self-help articles and downloadable quick-reference guides at www.fmpayments.com.
