Wow!  A point of sale system that is set to round to the nearest nickel in order to speed up customer processing time.   Reported by the NJ Star Ledger, by Karin Price Mueller,  Chipotle has been adjusting receipts up or down to facilitate making change.

This is a really interesting development.  In the past I've written about getting rid of pennies - it's something this country is ready for.   But for a restaurant to take the initiative, ahead of Congress, is out of the ordinary.   No doubt changes are coming in our system of currency, but depending on where you stand this is either illegal or forward thinking.

Since the stores did not advise customers of this policy,  they don't come off as being customer centric.  I think most people would not mind.

Is your POS software ready for this next step?   Is this a good policy?  What do you think?
