We found this very interesting (and promising) video of a trial run of an intersting point-of-sale system that uses cameras to recognize and scan items without the use of special tags or codes. The video below demonstrates how this exciting technology works. Though it still has some kinks - items like sandwiches that may look the same to the camera need to be angled a certain way to scan properly - it seems like an intersting concept. Currently, the product is still in the early trial stages in Asia, but we can think of lots of uses for this type of technology in Stateside retail and restaurant settings.
