Back in 1967, NCC became the first company to start a supermarket, bringing a new shopping concept to their customers in Abu Dhabi. Since then, NCC have continuously proven to be the innovative leader, and are now again changing the customers’ shopping experience, introducing self-scanning into their new concept store SOUQ PLANET.
The new shopping concept
Amongst many other innovations, the new concept store SOUQ PLANET is bringing self-scanning to their customers in UAE. The Personal Shopping System (PSS) is a booming trend in Europe, which has revolutionised the customer’s shopping experience and proven to drive added value to the retail organization. During the past few years, this innovative technology has been widely adopted by world’s largest retailers with the objective of accelerating checkout process at the store, increasing store revenue and improving customer service. NCC has chosen to partner with Re-Vision and Motorola Solutions to deploy the first Personal Shopping System in the Middle East.
The Personal Shopping System to be implemented in SOUQ PLANET enables customers to scan-and-bag items in-store, pay at the checkout without waiting in line and leave the store quickly, providing a completely new shopping experience and checkout convenience. PSS as a new service will be offered on a portable mobile computer, or on the customer’s own smartphones. At the store entrance, customers will pick up the device, or alternatively use their own smartphones to scan the barcode of the products they wish to purchase, placing the items directly into their shopping bag as they walk through the store aisles. Having finished their shopping, they would swiftly pay for their groceries at the VIP tills without having to wait in long queues and being burdened with unloading the shopping cart and re-bagging their purchases.
