There is no doubt that we Americans love to shop. But waiting in line to check out? Now that's a different story. Our impatience to get to the point of sale, swipe our credit card and take off with our goods--becomes almost tangible in a long line of consumers. Imagine if retailers could do away with lines altogether. No, not do away with the customers, just this tiresome point of sale tradition that forces people to jockey for their checkout position, only to have them stand idly by and twiddle their thumbs, have second thoughts about the merchandise they are holding, wish they could step away to scope out that rack of sale clothes... while they watch other customers get served, fumble for change, wait for a price check, etc., etc.
The Linēa-pro from Infinite Peripherals, Inc. (IPC) is making it possible to reject the stodgy old notion of check-out lines by equipping sales associates with a mobile point-of-sale device. The Linēa-pro maximizes the functionality and convenience of Apple's iPod touch and iPhone by adding a 1D or 2D barcode scanner and magnetic stripe reader. That means that customers only have to say the word, and a salesperson can meet them on the spot, scan the merchandise, swipe the credit card, and send them merrily on their way.
In order to keep up with demand and provide more convenience for clients, Infinite Peripherals, Inc. has just released the Linēa-pro 4, which can be used with 4th generation iPhone and iPod touch . The original Linēa-pro, introduced in November 2009, was compatible only with the 2nd and 3rd generations of the iPod touch. It is receiving rave reviews from retailers who are already using the device, who report optimized efficiency, increased customer conversion rates, and the perk of extra floor space once you do away with traditional POS counters.
"The incredible success of our original Linēa-pro demanded that we expand the product line for additional Apple mobile devices, ultimately to further enhance ease-of-use, convenience and efficiency for our clients and their customers," said Jeffrey Scott, CEO at IPC.
Comprised of a compact, light-weight, two-piece plastic shell, the Linēa-pro attaches to the mobile device via a 30-pin mating connector. Software runs on the mobile device, and customers can program scanner and reader functions into their own software application. Data can be stored locally or transmitted through a Wi-Fi or cellular network. A Bluetooth® option allows the device to connect to a portable receipt printer.
"The Linēa-pro helps bring the checkout lane or customer service desk directly to shoppers, instead of requiring them to spend time waiting in line for service – time that could be spent browsing and selecting additional merchandise for purchase," said Andrew Graham, president of IPC. "Purchasers really appreciate the time savings, along with the 'no-hassle' factor, which creates a huge perception shift of checkout."
The versatility of the Linēa-pro allows it to be used for other applications and industries. Besides point of sale (POS), it can interact with software written for inventory management, asset tracking, ID verification, lead tracking, inspection/work flow, dispatch, time/labor and lab and healthcare.
With our culture becoming increasingly mobile, customers have less patience and higher expectations. Infinite Peripherals, Inc. is making it possible for retailers to stay on the edge of the mobile trend, and make the shopping experience faster, more pleasant, and more gratifying for customers.
