RetailNOW opened its doors with a great keynote session handled by President and CEO Joe Finizio and backed up by Keynote speaker Chris Fuller, author of Iditarod Leadership. The Keynote speech used the metaphor of the Iditarod race to discuss the leadership challenges of running a business and facing down various obstacles. Finizio was both entertaining and informative as he updated RSPA members as to the goings on in the past year. The RSPA has been very busy helping members deal with PCI compliance matters.
The event is being held in Las Vegas at the Mandalay Bay. Lunch was delicious with a wide variety of well prepared foods and stimulating conversation at the table. In a unique approach, each table had a placard on it indicating the discussion topic. Topics included PCI, Managed Services and about 45 other POS relevant themes.
The afternoon breakout sessions included one by Greg Buzek of the IHL Group on Retail Trends. Some key trends, according to Buzek, are that mobile POS will be a strong growth area as well as customer loyalty programs. Digital signboards are a burgeoning area and POS as a service will grow smartly, from just 2% penetration to perhaps 6% penetration within the next 12 months. PCI compliance requirements were mentioned as one reason for some of the increased POS spending this year.
Companies holding dealer sessions included Metropolitan Sales where Alan Sweet was demonstrating the latest all-in-one touch systems from Logic Controls. Ingram Micro, Mercury Payment Systems and Casio were also holding meetings.
More sessions are being offered later today by CAP Software, ScanSource, BlueStar, Aures Technologies and CRS.
The RSPA staff has done a terrific job and virtually everything is running smoothly.
Finizio reported that RSPA membership is up 11% compared to the prior year.
A RSPA video offered on YouTube concerning PCI compliance has received over 39,000 views and is well worth watching . Click here to watch the video on PCI
