Aramark Implements Mobile Cloud-based Point of Sale System
Aramark, a professional food services company, is currently implementing Isis SmartTap Mobile Commerce Application along with the Micros Simphony point of service (POS) platform in the hospitality industry. This mobile cloud-based point of sale system allows customers at MICROS merchants to shop and pay with Isis Mobile Wallet. The POS System accepts contactless payments, offers, and loyalty cards through the tap of a mobile smartphone using Near Field Communication (NFC) technology.
“ARAMARK Business and Industry is excited to pioneer this new method of accepting payments, coupons, and loyalty offerings,” said Stephen Erickson, Chief Information Officer of ARAMARK Business and Industry. “We and our customers are pleased to embrace this innovative technology and enjoy its benefits.”
The point of sale system was placed in an Aramark restaurant located in Basking Ridge, New Jersey. The restaurant is equipped with a Micros workstation 5A (WS5A) with an NFC-enabled reader. The point of sale system, installed at 10 lanes, will facilitate tap and pay mobile payments.
The Isis Mobile Wallet is designed to make mobile payments more easily accessible and more generally accepted. It is a free mobile app that uses NFC technology to process payments with a tap. It requires a special sim card from AT&T, Verizon or T-mobile. The Isis Mobile Wallet holds virtual versions of cards and information from a real wallet. Credit cards such as Chase, Capital One and American Express can be accessed through the mobile phone. Alternatively, the free Isis Cash card can be used instead. Offers, coupons and discounts can be sent directly to the mobile phone. Loyalty cards from stores can be stored in the smart phone instead of having multiple cards on a keychain. It also tracks card balances and purchase history.
The Isis Mobile Wallet claims to be a more secure mobile payments option. It has several layers of security to protect sensitive data. The data saved by the app is securely saved in a chip in the smart phone, designed to restrict unauthorized access. The Isis Mobile Wallet can be accessed with a 4 digit PIN code of your choice. In case the mobile phone is stolen or lost, customers can call customer service and freeze the account. The account can also be frozen using the Isis website.
“Mobile commerce provides a significant opportunity for merchants and restaurateurs to engage with consumers and build customer loyalty through payments, loyalty and offers,” said Jim Stapleton, chief sales officer of Isis. “The integration of Isis SmartTap into the MICROS Simphony POS platform provides MICROS customers with a seamless way to integrate mobile commerce at the point of service.”
“Through our work with Isis, MICROS is able to provide our Simphony POS users with a new avenue to engage customers and cater to changes in transactions at the point of service,” said Michael L. Russo, Chief Technology Officer of MICROS Systems, Inc. “We welcome integrations that drive additional business for our restaurant customers, and are pleased to be the first POS software provider to integrate Isis SmartTap, allowing for a contactless environment by the restaurant patron.”
