Cashless Payment Solution for Schools
Cashless Betalen, a mobile phone-based cashless point of sale (POS) solution for school cafeterias and company canteens, was launched by Multicard, a division of Identive Group, last April 18, 2012 in the Netherlands. Cashless Betalen makes payments fast and easy during checkouts in the cafeteria. The cashless payment solution is being used in more than 100 high schools, international schools and company canteens in the Netherlands.
Cashless Betalen lets students make payments for their meals by tapping their mobile phones on the payment terminal. This cashless payment process makes payment transactions more efficient, reducing the lines at the register.
The brand Eurest, by the food service company Compass Group PLC, has used the cashless payment solution with much success. Joop Stutterheim, the Marketing Manager of Eurest, said, “The Cashless Betalen solution provides several benefits for us, for our customers and in turn their customers. The solution reduces the resources needed to handle cash, which is expensive and requires additional security protocols. Payment lines move more quickly and efficiently. And our guests are able to top-up their wallets with a mobile app or even better, using auto reload. Eurest is always searching for possible process improvements. The implementation of Cashless Betalen makes our company ready for the next generation of payments.”
Students and parents can also track their account balances, payment transactions as well as transfer funds using phone applications from Google Play or the Apple App Store. Balances can also be checked using SMS by texting the word ‘balance’ to 6689. They can also monitor the account activity online using the site mijncashless.nl. In case of loss or theft, payments can be stopped by logging on to the website and blocking the payment key.
The cashless payments solution keeps track of all the transactions so that food choices can be analyzed. Pieter Kooistra, the Managing Director of Multicard Netherlands, explains: “The International School of The Hague offers healthy food to their primary and secondary school students, but parents wanted information about their children’s actual choices. Together with the school’s caterer Eurest and their chosen point of sale partner, Multicard created a digital receipt that includes all meals and other food purchases, which allows parents to review their children’s school diets.”
Cashless Betalen is powered by MiniTix from the Netherlands bank Rabobank.
