Fingerprint Biometrics for POS at NRF Big Show
The National Retail Federation’s 100th Annual Convention and Expo kicks off this weekend in New York. Many new technologies will be demonstrated, among them U.are.U. Many Point-of-Sale (POS) software and hardware providers will be demonstrating solutions integrated with U.are.U® fingerprint biometrics from DigitalPersona. Known as retail’s BIG show, the annual NRF event will provide attendees with the opportunity to see DigitalPersona fingerprint biometrics in action. DigitalPersona’s U.are.U biometrics integrated with retail/POS applications enables retail associates to simply touch a fingerprint reader to quickly obtain access to a cash register, clock-in to start or end a shift, and approve overrides and voids. U.are.U Fingerprint Readers authenticate fingerprints accurately and rapidly regardless of placement angle.
In addition to DigitalPersona’s booth #2063, attendees of the show can view demonstrations of the integrated fingerprint biometric solutions by DigitalPersona at the following exhibitor booths: Celerant #2205, Epicor #2105, IBM #1337, Micros-Retail #2303, NCR #1902/1903, Oracle Retail #619, Partner Tech #1925, Pioneer POS #159, Posiflex #3009, Raymark #2223, Retail Anywhere #2553, Retail Pro #3344 and Tomax #645.
Cash register shrink plagues retailers around the world and can eat up almost six percent of total annual revenue,” said Duncan Taylor, Director of Product Management, Store Solutions for Epicor. ““U.are.U fingerprint biometrics from DigitalPersona is an obvious solution to this problem. Our customers recognize that fingerprint biometrics is a ‘NEXT GENERATION’ solution for reducing both transaction time and fraud within their organizations, and can quickly complement a retailer’s efforts to comply with security requirements around user authentication.”
“Retail is one of the fastest-growing commercial segments for biometric authentication, and retailers are experiencing significant financial and operational savings from deploying our U.are.U fingerprint biometrics,” said Jim Fulton, vice president of marketing, DigitalPersona, Inc. “We anticipate continued growth in the coming year as leading POS software providers integrate fingerprint biometrics into their solutions. Retail software vendors use DigitalPersona Software Development Kits to quickly and easily add fingerprint authentication to their POS applications.”
Fraud and theft remain dominant issues for global retailers as losses continue to mount. The Centre for Retail Research’s Global Retail Theft Barometer estimates that approximately $40.7 billion is lost due to retail shrink per year. Additionally, the American Payroll Association estimates payroll fraud can account for up to five percent of total payroll expense1. DigitalPersona fingerprint biometrics enable organizations to quickly and securely identify users when performing tasks or accessing applications and records. The fingerprint reader solution easily integrates into POS systems so businesses can reduce fraud, cut IT costs and improve efficiency.
