Hotels Offer Digital Displays For Travelers
There are few events more frustrating to air travelers than sitting in an airport for hours waiting for a delayed flight to be rescheduled or, worse yet, canceled. Whether impacting business travelers scurrying to reschedule a round of crucial meetings in their next destination city or families dealing with bored and cranky children, airport delays are disruptive, exhausting, and irritating. Unfortunately, they are a common occurrence, almost to be expected in these days of overbooked flights and uncertain weather conditions.
Flyte Systems, a Chicago-based digital signage company, has introduced an innovative solution that can alleviate some of the headaches associated with air travel. Their product is FlyteBoard, and hotels located around major airports are now able to provide this amenity to their guests. Flyte Systems is the only full service flight information display solution that provides real-time airline departure information.
One such hotel is the Hyatt Place in Pensacola, Florida, operated by Innisfree Hotels. In an exclusive interview with The Point of Sale News, General Manager Adam Emling noted that FlyteBoard brings a “nice, classy, update amenity” to the lobby area. He continued: “Having travel updates within the hotel is a tremendous benefit for our guests…The display is exactly like the flight schedule boards our guests see at airports. Travelers can review their flight status from the lobby area as they prepare to check out of the hotel. If their flight is delayed, they have the option to stay with us, use our free Wi-Fi, and enjoy coffee or a meal in our restaurant or a cocktail at the bar. For late-day canceled flights, they can simply rebook their flights for the next day and stay with us for the night. Besides being a benefit to the guest, the FlyteBoard also provides a good revenue stream for the hotel.”
Emling said he was impressed by the nominal up-front cost and minimal monthly fee for the FlyteBoard service. “Installation of the FlyteBoard has, in a very short period of time, paid for itself in customer satisfaction and additional hotel revenues,” he stated.
The FlyteBoard system can also be found at the Wyndham Indianapolis West Hotel, a 407-room convention property located near the Indianapolis International Airport.
“Many of our guests have never seen airport flight schedule displays at a hotel, and they are impressed that we think enough of their convenience to provide one in our lobby,” Craig Toby, the property’s director of sales and marketing, said in a news release.
He added that the board shows departure and arrival gates, as well as canceled flights for all airlines that fly into Indianapolis.
The Wyndham also offers the FlyteChannel guestroom television service and FlytePass boarding pass printing near the FlyteBoard, Toby said, where guests can print boarding passes before they board the hotel’s airport shuttle.
Other hotel groups using the FlyteBoard and Flyte System products include Marriot, Westin, Embassy Suites, Holiday Inn, Days Inn, Hilton, Doubletree, Hotel Sofitel, Adam’s Mark, Renaissance and Crown Plaza. Convention centers are also installing the service.
On-the-fly Data from Flyte Systems

According to the company’s website, FlyteBoard is a high-definition flat-panel screen that can be mounted on walls, floors, or ceilings in lobbies, restaurants, bars, and other public areas, displaying flight information for one or more airports. FlyteChannel permits guests to view live airport flight information conveniently and comfortably from their in-room television. FlyteTouch enables individual guests to search flight information using an interactive touch screen that displays real-time flight arrivals and departures for one or more airports. FlytePass combines FlyteTouch with free, secure boarding pass printing. It can be provided as a stand-alone or neatly packaged in either an all wood kiosk or an integrated metal kiosk to match the business’ décor. And FlytePad is a mobile-ready service that delivers real-time airline information via the iPad, enabling hotel staff to provide guests with airline information anywhere and anytime.
