Ingenico Remote Updates Save Cabela’s time and Money, and Ease P2PE Implementation
ATLANTA, GA–(Marketwired – May 25, 2016) – Ingenico Group (Euronext: FR0000125346 – ING), the global leader in seamless payment, announced today that Cabela’s Incorporated, a leading specialty retailer and the world’s largest direct marketer of hunting, fishing, camping and related outdoor merchandise, recently relied on Ingenico Group to ease the process of implementing point-to-point encryption (P2PE) in all of its stores.
Cabela’s, a long-time Ingenico Group customer, has 80+ retail locations in the US and Canada, and uses Ingenico Group’s ISC Touch 250 smart terminals to provide a seamless and secure checkout experience for its outdoor enthusiast customers. The powerful and compact smart terminals offer a full range of upselling/cross-selling capabilities, such as the ability to display digital advertisements and videos, gift card promotions, and more.
Recently, Cabela’s implemented P2PE to further protect customer card data. In order to complete the implementation, Cabela’s installed base of Ingenico Group’s smart terminals required application updates and key management. Using Ingenico Group’s Offline Remote Key Injection (Offline RKI) solution, Cabela’s was able to update its terminals remotely, saving hundreds of thousands of dollars and helping to greatly ease the P2PE implementation.
Traditional Remote Key Injection (RKI) enables estate owners to push updated keys to their terminals remotely, meaning the keys can be updated over the Internet. While an improvement over having to ship terminals to a warehouse for upgrades, traditional RKI presents challenges for merchants that use modern integrated POS systems, as those terminals are typically connected to the POS rather than directly to the Internet. In that case, terminals would need to be unplugged from the POS and connected directly to the Internet for updating — a process that can take weeks and may require on-site IT support at each store.
Ingenico Group has improved upon that model with its Offline RKI solution, which enables updates to be pushed to the integrated POS system and then programmatically transfers the update package to the terminal. This enables merchants to securely and remotely update their smart terminals without unplugging or moving them.
“Cabela’s is focused on providing customers with legendary customer service and a great in-store experience, whether that’s on the retail floor or at the point of sale,” said Paul Stone, Cabela’s Chief Retail Officer. “We decided that implementing point-to-point encryption would be a tremendous benefit to our business and to our customers. Ingenico Group’s ability to remotely upgrade its terminal keys via Offline RKI made this process considerably easier for Cabela’s and our store managers with minimal disruption to our business.”
“Cabela’s is making all the right moves to secure cardholder data and provide a seamless payment experience for their customers,” said Scott Tubbs, Chief Revenue Officer, US, at Ingenico Group. “We’ve enjoyed working with their team for quite some time and look forward to continuing to serve as a strategic partner for Cabela’s as they look to roll out the latest payment technology and expand their acceptance capabilities.”
