Instacart Launches One-Hour Grocery Delivery Service in Orange County

Retail Partners Include Whole Foods Market, Gelson’s Market, Stater Bros. Markets, Smart & Final, Costco, Petco, H Mart

SAN FRANCISCO, CA–(Marketwired – March 28, 2016) –  Instacart (, the fast-growing retail delivery service whose personal shoppers hand pick and deliver items from trusted local stores, announced today its first expansion of 2016 — Orange County. Beginning today, Orange County residents can order from Whole Foods Market, Gelson’s Market, Stater Bros. Markets, Ralphs, Smart & Final, Costco (no membership needed), Petco, and H Mart and have their groceries delivered straight to their doorsteps in as little as one hour.

In 2015, Instacart’s Los Angeles market grew by roughly 350 percent, so expanding business into its neighboring county, Orange County, was a natural extension.

“We’ve received thousands of customer requests from Orange County residents to bring Instacart to their community, along with incredible interest from retail partners here,” said Apoorva Mehta, Founder and CEO of Instacart. “We are passionate about saving our customers time and money, which is why we partner with local and national retailers to bring our customers groceries from their favorite stores wherever, and whenever they want them. We couldn’t be more excited to launch in Orange County.”

Whole Foods Market will offer delivery via Instacart at prices that are the same as shoppers find in-stores. “We’ve seen how much our customers love this fast and convenient way to receive Whole Foods Market groceries right to their door, so we are thrilled to offer this service to our Orange County community,” said Patrick Bradley, President, Whole Foods Market Southern Pacific Region. “Instacart has given us a way to provide customers with the highest-quality, fresh and healthy groceries even when they can’t make it into our stores.”

Cleo and Leo Stater opened the first Stater Bros. grocery store in Yucaipa, California in 1936, during the Great Depression. “Meeting our valued customer’s needs has been key to our success for the past 80 years and it will continue to be for our future,” emphasized Stater Bros. Markets President and Chief Executive Officer, Pete Van Helden. “Instacart is meeting a new demand for the delivery of fresh, high quality products like ours, and we want to provide this option to our shoppers, too,” he added.

Gelson’s Markets, which already works with Instacart in the LA area, also expressed their enthusiasm about expanding their partnership with Instacart to Orange County. “We are seeing tremendous growth in our delivery business with Instacart in LA, and look forward to offering the same convenience to many of our Orange County customers,” said Yvonne Manganaro, Senior Director of Marketing at Gelson’s.

Instacart’s intial delivery area in Orange County covers Newport Beach, Costa Mesa, Corona del Mar, and much of Irvine.

How Instacart works: Customers go online to or open the Instacart mobile app on their iPhone or Android device, select their city and store, add items to a virtual cart, and then choose a delivery window (within one hour, within two hours, or some scheduled time in the future) and check out. An Instacart Personal Shopper accepts the order on his/her smartphone, uses the Instacart Shopper app to guide them through shopping, and then delivers the order to the customer in the designated delivery timeframe.
