A POS System for Eco-Chic Consignment Shop: A Case Study


The Problem

Eco-Chic Consignments’ old point of sale (POS) system was slow, outdated, and extremely cumbersome for their employees. They needed an affordable POS solution that was easy to use and implement.

Eco-Chic Consignments is a retailer in Arizona with over 11 shops around Phoenix and Scottsdale. They sell and consign top brands, such as Prada, Armani, Tommy Bahama, Burberry, Moschino and Chanel, for 60-90% below retail price. They have 4 different types of consignment shops. My Sister’s Closet is a recycled designer apparel consignment store. Small Change consigns recycled children’s items. Well Suited consigns men’s resale, and My Sister’s Attic consigns recycled home furnishings. Eco-Chic Consignments wanted a POS system that that would meet the challenges of consignment, allowing them to view customer details—including purchase history, items consigned, balances and payouts—in real-time from their stores as well as from corporate offices.

The Solution

After considering various POS solutions, Eco-Chic Consignments decided to use Retail Anywhere software and IBM SurePOS Hardware. The consignment chain is using Retail Anywhere POS, Retail Anywhere Enterprise and PCCharge Interface as well as Enterprise Server Hosting, Remote Monitoring, Help Desk Support and Training. They have two to six stations set up at each location.


The consignment POS system allows them to manage and view their extensive inventory and have real-time visibility across the chain. They can accurately process customer and consignor transactions involving charges, credits and payouts. The POS system also helps them track and control their new, resale and consignment products. With the new consignment POS system, customers can now shop and consign at any of Eco-Chic’s locations. Customers can also set up wish lists and receive notifications when new inventory arrives.
