RetailNOW 2013 – the RSPA in Las Vegas
It’s August, it’s Las Vegas, it’s hot outside and there is no shade! It’s not a problem though, because we’re in town for the RSPA’s RetailNOW 2013 – a gathering of thousands of retail professionals seeking to learn and share what is going on in the world of retail solutions right now. The RSPA (Retail Solutions Providers Association) is the only association dedicated to the retail technology industry. Members include resellers, distributors, hardware manufacturers, software developers, consultants and service providers who bring retail technology solutions to the marketplace. The RSPA has been around for over 60 years and was formerly known as the ICRDA – Independent Cash Register Dealers Association.
Just a few of the highlights of the Retail Solutions Providers Association agenda for today:
Michael Sansone, and Sean Ryan, consultants with AT Kearney will be offering sessions on The Future of POS , and Decision Making in a World of Uncertainty.
Greg Dixon of ScanSource will be presenting on Mobility Agility and how to add it to your retail solutions.
Ian Tomlinson of Cybertill will be discussing Managing Peaks, Troughs, Mobility and the Cloud in Retail.
Jim Marascio of 11Giraffes will be presenting The Future of In-store Retail Media.
Certain to be well attended is a panel discussion on “The Transition to the ‘As A Service’ Model” – Panelists will include :
– Hunter Allen, Founder/CEO/Owner, Cervion Systems
– Andrew Kurtz, CEO, Vigilix
– Jim Stewart, President, Advanced Data Systems
– James Foxall, President/CEO, Tigerpaw Software
– Mark Sokol, Director of Product Marketing, ConnectWise
In recent decades, the predominant model has been one of selling equipment and software to the retailer, but we are clearly now in a new phase, so this should be a timely discussion. Those familiar with the history of commercial adoption of the computer may remember that early on (50+ years ago), systems were only leased and never sold – IBM was on this model for many years, therefore the industry is not in completely new territory.
Some of the vendors we’ll be checking out include :
Seiko/Wasp/Synnex – is promoting an all-in-one bundle for retailers, including Wasp software and Seiko receipt printer
Epson and AppCard – will be showing the Appcard loyalty solution that ties into Epsons OmniLink printer running on a Sharp POS system.
APG Cashdrawer has a new Bluetooth solution – looking forward to testing this at their booth.
Mercury Payment has some new offerings.
If you aren’t in Las Vegas now, be sure to sign up for RSPA updates and emails and make it a point to come next year!
